Prosecutors in Chile are carrying out an unprecedented investigation into decades of abuse of minors by the Catholic Church.
Thus far, 167 clergymen, including seven bishops, the archbishop of Santiago and his predecessor, have been charged with carrying out or covering up the sexual assaults.
Pope Francis and the Vatican have offered to cooperate with the investigation, but the Chilean prosecutor said that active collaboration has not been forthcoming.
Al Jazeera’s Lucia Newman reports from Santiago.
