Muqtada al-Sadr remains the winner after a manual recount of May’s disputed parliamentary vote in Iraq.

But the Shia leader will still need to find coalition partners to form a government, that is, unless he chooses to join the opposition as he has threatened to do.

The political uncertainty has hampered Iraq’s ability to handle unemployment, lack of basic services and slow recovery from the battle with ISIL, leaving Iraqis frustrated with the duration of the election process.
