In a landmark decision, a jury in the United States has asked a chemical giant to pay $289m in damages to a school groundskeeper.

The Californian jury ruled a weedkiller, made by Monsanto, caused cancer in him.

It is the first lawsuit to go to trial alleging a glyphosate link to cancer.

The case could pave the way for thousands of other claims.

Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna reports.
