Whales are staying safe from hunters for now – after a plea to end a 33-year ban on hunting was rejected by the International Whaling Commission.
Japan, Norway and Iceland argued commercial whaling should be allowed because whale populations have recovered – some from near extinction.
Conservation groups celebrated the decision, but Japan has insisted that its rights are being denied.
