NASA’s robotic explorer Osiris-Rex has successfully approached an ancient asteroid, Bennu, after chasing it for nearly two years.
The robotic explorer pulled within 19km of the diamond-shaped space rock on Monday. It will get closer in the days to come and go into the orbit around Bennu on December 31.
This is NASA’s first attempt to gather asteroid samples. The aim of the mission is to delve deeper into the origins of the universe and life on Earth.

Al Jazeera’s Rob Reynolds reports.
